Congratulations on your decision to install a security system in your home or business. These
systems are an important safeguard in keeping your family, home or business protected.
Delco Alarm Systems, a family-owned company, has been helping keep its customers and their
property safe for decades. One of our goals is to keep our customers up-to-date with the latest
information about new technology available on the security front. We also pride ourselves in
assisting customers in understanding their systems and help them with any questions or
concerns they may have.
This month, our focus is on wireless security systems. This type of system has grown in
popularity and is now the most popular residential system we install.
How do wireless security systems work?
Our wireless systems use sensors that are battery powered and are supervised, which means they are always communicating with the security panel. These systems also use cellular and/or the internet instead of wires to connect your security panel to our Central Station.
Wireless systems that incorporate cellular or internet communication can also be controlled through an app on a smart-phone. You can arm and disarm these systems with your phone or at the alarm panel. These apps can also be used to control lights, thermostats, locks and other compatible devices.
Are wireless systems secure?
Yes. In fact a wireless system cannot be easily disabled by a would-be intruder, unlike a wired sensor. Wireless sensors have tamper switches built into the cover and mounting plate, these tampers will activate and send a signal to the Central Station. With cellular and internet communications, the signal to the Central Station is monitored more frequently to ensure connection..
What happens if the power goes out?
Wireless systems have battery backups. They will kick in if there is a power outage and last approximately five hours, depending on the age of the battery. we recommend replacing the battery every five years.
Can I take my system with me if I move?
Since these systems are not hardwired, they are easy to move. Simply remove your sensors, cameras and other components and put them in your new location. We recommend this be done by one of our technicians. This feature is especially valuable to anyone who rents or moves frequently. Wireless systems are also less expensive to install.
