What is a Communication (Com) Fault?
What does it mean when your security system’s panel beeps to inform you there is a “com fault?” What the panel is telling you is that an attempt to communicate with the monitoring station was unsuccessful.
If your security system communicates with the monitoring station through a landline, a power outage will knock out your phone lines. Since security systems have battery backups, it will attempt to notify the monitoring station about the power loss. But without an operable phone line, it can not do so.
