Water and Heat Sensors Upgrade Your Home Protection
As record breaking heat scorches the area and an above-normal hurricane season is predicted, homeowners can look to their security systems to help keep loved ones and property protected. With a few additional sensors, your security system can alert you to indoor flooding, excessive heat and power outages. Being able to address a problem quickly gives you the opportunity to stop damage before it becomes costly, or worse, dangerous.
Water Detector Sensors
These relatively inexpensive devices can save you a substantial amount of money, not to mention the headache of replacing water damaged property. Placed in areas prone to water damage, they quickly alert you to a burst pipe, flooding or other issue. Generally they are placed under a sink, washer, hot water heater or even toilets. If your home is prone to basement flooding, a sensor placed near the sump pump can alert you to a problem before it gets out of hand. Having a back-up sump pump is always a good idea as well. There are a variety of water sensors, some simply sound an alarm if water is detected. Others can be synced with your smartphone giving you immediate notification of a problem no matter where you are.
Temperature Detectors
These small sensors monitor room temperature. Often used in commercial settings, they can also be valuable for homeowners. In the winter when low temperatures can cause pipes to burst, these sensors will let you know the ambient temperature is too low. Likewise, if the temperature inside of your home becomes too hot, you’ll be notified. This is especially valuable if you have elderly relatives, infants or others with medical conditions. When your device is installed, you set an upper and lower temperature threshold. If the temperature point has been reached, the device will send an alert.
