You made sure your home is secure by having a security system installed.
But do you always arm it when you should?
USE YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM PROPERLY
Security systems are a great way to keep you family and your home safe
from intruders. They only work, however, when they are armed.
A Delaware County couple found that out the hard way. While they always
armed their system at night and when leaving the house for several hours,
they often neglected to do so when running out for an hour or so.
One day, after being gone for less than an hour, they returned home to find
the place ransacked. Burglars had broken into their home and made off
with cash, electronics and heirloom jewelry. The couple was devastated.
Some of the items that had been stolen were irreplaceable.
Had their security system been activated, the alarm most likely would have
caused the bad guys to run. Police would have been notified and the
couple would in all likelihood still have their valuables.
DOOR CHIMES
Parents of young children should consider having door sensor chimes that
ring when the doors are opened. Just ask a local mom who’s 18-month old
child was able to open a door and wander outside alone. Luckily the errant
child was discovered quickly before being able to wander off.
Door chimes are also valuable for anyone with a backyard pool and young
children. They can be disarmed when not needed.
KEEPING YOU SAFE
Arming your security system is also a good idea when you are spending
time outside. If you are cutting the grass you may not notice or hear
someone trying to gain entry into your home. Likewise, if you are in the
backyard tending to a garden or having a cookout, someone could break
into your home without your even knowing it.
Setting the alarm if you intend to be outside for any length of time is a good
idea. After all, it takes only seconds to arm and disarm your system.
Make a habit of arming your security system. The peace of mind it provides
is invaluable.
