If you have a security or camera system that uses a smartphone app, make sure you are aware of several things that can cause your app to malfunction.
I got a new phone
When you get a new phone, the security app may need to be downloaded again. This can occur even if you backed up your old phone. Make sure
you know the app settings – your username, password and IP address -before switching phones. Without these, you won’t be able to login to your
I changed my internet provider
Most of the time, you will have to reset your IP address and open ports on your router when changing your internet provider. This is especially
important with IP cameras. Tech savvy folks may be able to accomplish this on their own. But in most cases, it will require a service call from the
company that installed your cameras.
My Router was just replaced
As with the above scenario, changing your router will cause a connection problem. Even if you have the same internet provider, the new router will need to be configured to work with your system.
The best advice we can offer? After any security system or camera installation requiring an app, make sure you write down all of the information needed to operate your app and router settings.
