Why Can’t I Connect to my Security System’s Cameras?
You’ve been using your smartphone to view your security system’s cameras for a while, then…nothing! What’s going on? One of the most frequent calls our service department receives is from
customers who can’t see their security cameras on their phone. While you can always call the Delco Alarm Services Department for help, there is often an easier fix. What most people don’t realize is that a change in cell phones or internet or cable providers can mess up your system. Even repairs to a modem or router can cause problems. If you have a security or camera system that uses a smartphone app, you should be aware of the different things that can cause your app to malfunction.
A New Phone
When you get a new phone, the security app may need to be downloaded again. This can occur even if you backed up your old phone. Make sure you know the app settings – your username, password and IP address – before switching phones. Without these, you won’t be able to login to your system.
A new internet provider
Most of the time, you will have to reset your IP address and open ports on your router when changing your internet provider. This is especially important with IP cameras. While tech savvy folks may be able to accomplish this on their own, in most cases this will require a service call.
My Router was just replaced
As with the above scenario, changing your router will cause a connection problem. Even if you have the same internet provider, a new router will need to be configured to work with your system.
Remember, after any security system or camera installation requiring an app, be sure to write down all of the information needed to operate the app and router settings. If you need additional information, or have any questions, please contact the service department at Delco Alarm System, 601-494-9100.
